Norwegian heritage meets the modern need for laid-back luxury and cutting-edge cool

Northern Lighting was founded in Olso in 2005. This year, they made the decision to rebrand as simply Northern. This has come with a new selection of furniture and accessory items inspired by the rugged landscapes and clear blue waters, dramatic horizons reflected in breath-taking Norwegian fjords that surround and inspire the design studio. Northern was established to pioneer where creative expression meets traditional craft, and where pale beauty is coupled with rough-cut contrasts. Inspirations such as these are sparking new directions for design. They combine beauty with functionality, and prefer natural materials and genuine craftsmanship. Furniture and interior accessories are a natural fit enabling a characteristic style in a whole new scale.

Northern’s debut collection is simplicity at its best, spelled out in streamlined designs that are fun to combine and easy to clash and contrast. Smoked wood, twilight colours and strong silhouettes create subdued moods, while subtle geometries and classic sensibilities add an elegant touch. We see the interior as a flexible, creative space, and make multifunctional products that are unified in style, as well as in spirit.

Shelter is a tabletop is bordered by perforated steel, forming a lightweight screen that wraps around the front and sides. The surface itself is crafted from a smoked oak veneer supported between legs made in steel. The screen provides a compelling backdrop for contemporary artefacts, forming a focal point that lends itself to arrangements of ornaments and objects. Shelter’s versatility and simplicity make it a great fit for any type of environment.

Hifive storage system is as cool as they come. The system is comprised of streamlined modular components: an open unit, a cabinet with a scrolling door, a sleek metal base and a wooden top that unites the units with a single surface. If no base is required, the units can be mounted directly to the wall. The cabinet is designed to hold equipment such as receivers, amps and multimedia players. Its scrolling door closes to conceal the contents, hiding the electronics behind a flexible wooden screen. The open unit is sized to accommodate old-school vinyl LPs but can store music and television media too. The units are available in a smoked oak veneer, black painted oak veneer and light-coloured oiled oak veneer. Contemporary in expression and practical in scope, Hifive can provide storage for a range of items.
