LP_Feature_1

We are very excited to introduce the latest brand to join The Lollipop Shoppe family,  Danish lighting brand Louis Poulson!

Louis Poulsen’s approach to architectural development began with its collaboration with one of the best known and respected light designers, Poul Henningsen. Together with Poul Henningsen, Louis Poulsen created a lighting and product philosophy summed up in the words function, comfort and ambience. This philosophy continues to this day to clearly influence the very simple and functional product design – with a focus on human well-being and perception of artificial light – which helps create unique lighting environments. Louis Poulsen’s approach to lighting lies in a very strict and uncompromising product philosophy grounded in simplicity. There must be no elements which do not serve a light related purpose. This results in products with a very simple and discreet design, ideally suited to all types of architecture, both new and old, across cultural styles. Louis Poulsen’s product designs are also admired for their unique quality and lasting appeal, with the result that projects remain contemporary year after year.

TLS looks at… Iittala!

Friday, November 6th, 2015

Iittala started as a glass factory in 1881, in a village of the same name in Finland. In its primitive years Iittala made simple glass wear to continental models. At the beginning of the 20th century this changed, Iittala was one of the first companies to move away from traditional decorative dinnerwear, and approach design in a more modern, functional and aesthetically pleasing way,  introducing a progressive Scandinavian element.

The arrival of the modernist and functionalist movements during the 1930s and 40s had a big influence on the company, with pioneers such as Alvar and Aino Aalto and Kaj Franck leading the progession of the brand, design developed to match the designers philosophy that everything should be created with thought, and beauty, was well as being functional and accessible to everyone.

Today Iiittala is still producing these classic designs as well as creating new products, always keeping to the same design ethos. You can shop Iittala products at The Lollipop Shoppe by clicking here

Muuto

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Muuto is a brand we very much admire at TLS. From the flash of yellow in their playful teapots to the curved lines in the Corky Carafe, and now with the exciting news of the incoming arrival of the Rest Sofa by Anderssen & Vol. (BTW – exclusive to TLS for the first two months from its release date) TLS thought its about time, we talked a little more about Muuto. Or rather post something on our blog or better still, waffle on about the wonderful designs and products from the Scandinavian ‘pop’ mind that is Muuto. Click the MUUTO logo at the bottom to watch a short video on the brands products.

Here a little more from Muuto themselves.

We are striving to expand the Scandinavian design tradition with new and original perspectives. In fact, our name Muuto, inspired by the Finnish word muutos, means new perspective.
To us good design starts with the person. We handpick the brightest design talent in Scandinavia and give them the freedom to express their individual story through everyday objects. Some want to alter the world, others find passion in colour and shape or draw deeply from personal experience. How do they see a chair, vase, lamp or any other everyday product?

You will know our design because it has muutos. Objects made sublime through new perspectives, enjoyed across the world, representing the best of Scandinavian design today.
