The Eames DSW Plastic Chair is part of the family of plastic chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1950. This iconic design has certainly stood the test of time.
The Eames DSW (Dining Height Side Chair Wood Base) features an intricate base constructed of steel wire with turned wooden legs. Also available are the DSR or DSX Eames Plastic Chairs, the same one piece seat but with different bases for more visual options.
This iconic chair was designed by legendary duo Charles and Ray Eames in 1950. For years, the designer couple explored the core idea of a one-piece seat shell, moulded to fit the contours of the human body. After various experiments, the Plastic Armchair (A-shell) and Plastic Side Chair (S-shell) were launched on the market in 1950. The very first mass-produced plastic chairs in the history of furniture.
Originally made from fibreglass, today Vitra manufactures these comfortable seat shells in polypropylene (a more ecological material). They offer a multitude of bases, shell colours and upholstery options. This allows for countless different combinations to used in the widest range of settings: from dining rooms, living rooms and home offices to office workspaces and conference rooms; from restaurants and cafés to break rooms and cafeterias; from waiting areas and auditoriums to terraces and gardens.
Seat shell: dyed-through polypropylene.Base: non-stacking base in solid wood, stained and lacquered finish, maple in different colours, ash in honey tone. Steel rod cross struts in basic dark.
