Vitra Eames Elephant Seat

Almost no other wild animal is as popular and well-known as the elephant. Admired for its majestic size and its inexhaustible strength, evoking smiles with its slow and sometimes apparently clumsy movement and loved for its proverbial good-humour and social behaviour. Charles and Ray Eames also succumbed to the charm of these pachyderms. This is clear from a photo series about circus elephants, but especially from the toy elephant which they developed in 1945 as part of their experiments with three-dimensional plywood shapes. Vitra is now marketing this design in a plastic version and thus for the first time is making it available to the target group for which it was originally intended: children. Whether as a toy (also for outdoor use) or as an item for children‘s bedrooms, this friendly-looking animal with its distinctive, huge floppy ears should make the heart of many a child and parent beat just that little bit stronger.
