The "Paimio" 41 Armchair was designed by the great Alvar Aalto. One of many designs originally made for the Paimio Sanatorium, the Paimio Armchair was a triumph of the wood bending process and is one of Aalto most sculptural designs.
Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), one of the founders of Artek, was born in Kuortane, Finland. He is recognized today as one of the great masters of modern architecture. Aalto began designing furnishings as a natural and important extension of his architectural thinking. His first modern piece of furniture was created in 1931-32.
Artek’s collection is based on the original idea of standards and systems, initiated by Alvar Aalto’s bent wood experiments.
