The 60 Stool is an instantly familiar and iconic piece of furniture design by Alvar Aalto.
This stackable 60 Stool was created by the great Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) in 1933. It represents the quintessence of functionalist furniture design. The simple idea behind this now-classic stool is based on three bent legs and a round seat. The secret of the original Aalto stool´s success lies in its legs´unique bends that eventually became the distinctive feature of all Aalto furniture.
The stool is also manufactured in a four-legged version the E60 Stool.

One of the key founders of furniture brand Artek, Alvar Aalto's designs are famous worldwide. Born in Kuortane, Finland Aalto is recognized as one of the great masters of modern architecture. During his prolific career, Aalto worked across a wide range of projects from town halls to theatres, churches, libraries and universities. He began designing furniture as a natural extension from his architectural and interior designs. His first breakthrough into furniture design was when he looked to furnish the Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Paimio. The pieces designed for this project pushed Alto to establish Artek in 1935 where his and Aino Aalto's furniture, lamps and textiles could be sold internationally.
