The dainty A330s pendant lamp from Artek was nicknamed the "Golden Bell", designed by the famous Alvar Aalto.
The A330s or "Golden Bell" pendant lamp was originally developed as part of a commission for the interior design of the Savoy Restaurant in Helsinki. The elegant Golden Bell lamp formed part of the restaurant’s interior, providing direct downlighting over the restaurants many tables.
This small streamlined pendant lamp works well on it's own and very well as a group. Aalto has designed a variety of small pendants with small footprints which can be mixed and matched to great effect. Some of these include the A110 "Hand Grenade", A338 “Bilberry” and the more complex version A330S the A330.
As well as the classic brass finish, the Golden Bell is now available in a black, white or chromed version.
It was shown in the Finnish Pavilion of the Paris World Expo in 1937.
One of the key founders of Artek, Alvar Aalto's designs are well known internationally. Born in Kuortane, Finland Aalto is recognized as one of the masters of modern architecture. During his prolific career, Aalto worked across a broad range of projects from town halls to theatres, churches, libraries and universities. He began designing furniture and lighting as a natural extension from his architectural and interior designs. Aalto went on to established Artek in 1935 where his and Aino Aalto's furniture, lamps and textiles could be sold internationally.
