Part of the classic Risom Collection, the Risom Lounge Chair was one of the first pieces ever commissioned and manufactured by the Knoll Furniture Company.
Originally known as the 600 Series, the Risom Lounge Chair was born from a fortunate meeting of furniture distributor Hans Knoll, and designer Jens Risom.
Hans Knoll originally began as an distributor of imported European Designs, but knowing that the war would disrupt his supply chain he looked to develop original Knoll Furniture that could be manufactured locally in New York. Enter Jens Risom. Risom designed a complete line of simple modern chairs, tables & storage that could be made locally, with the materials available during the wartime supply restrictions. The lounge chair was originally constructed of simple maple frames and discarded parachute webbing. Of the various designs within the collection the Lounge chair became one the most well known, with its distinctive profile and woven webbing.
“Design is a creative effort to successfully solve problems; ‘good design,’ therefore, is a ‘good solution’ which must satisfy the many requirements.” - Jens Risom
This timeless design has now become a Knoll classic and is produced in select maple with a choice of coloured 100% cotton webbing.
