Ole Wanscher is renowned for his elegant pieces of furniture, which are all characterized by the superior quality oftheir construction and design as well as their sophisticated and functional details. This also applies to the Beak Chair OW124, which exudes exclusivity and a high standard of craftsmanship. The chair is an elegant example of Wanscher's sculptural flair and his sense for delicate details, which can be seen for example in the distinctive armrests that extend unsupported from the main frame, and whose beak-like shape has inspired the chair's name. With the Beak Chair, Carl Hansen & Son is adding yet another piece of furniture to its exclusive Wanscher collection, which also comprises the Colonial series and the Egyptian stool.
Ole Wanscher's Beak Chair, designed in 1951, represents his outstanding sense of craftsmanship and design. Details such as the distinctive beak-like armrests that inspired the chair's nickname demand exquisite materials and exemplary craftsmanship.
Wanscher's sense for subtle detailing is also expressed in the discreet cover caps on the side of the armrests, reminiscent of a bird's eye. The lounge chair's soft, curved elements seamlessly join one another in a light, organic flow.
The Beak Chair, OW124, is available in oak and walnut with upholstery in either leather or fabric, which can be mixed and matched to suit both modern and classic interiors.
About the Designer.
Ole Wanscher (1903-1985), was born in Copenhagen in 1903 and was an architect and professor of architecture with furniture designs as his specialty. He came to shape Danish furniture, both as an active designer and as a master teacher. His furniture designs are nowconsidered to be modern classics - sophisticated and functional with an exquisite attention to detail. Construction and form was ofthe utmost importance to Ole Wanscher, treating furniture design as if it was a branch of architecture. He studied under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and also worked for the master himself from 1924-1927, before becoming an independent achitect specializing in furniture design. He later followed in Kaare Klint's footsteps as a professor at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts with a master in furniture design.

The cover cap armrests always comes in a contrasting wood of oak or walnut. Black painted shows the woodgrain and the cover cap for the black model only comes in black.
