Verner Panton
Verner Panton, born 1926, studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen before going to work at Arne Jacobsen’s architectural practice. Panton went on to establish his own studio in 1955.
Verner Panton is regarded as one of the key figures within design and his works included furniture, lighting, textiles and interiors. Panton’s idea of the perfect design was a combination of colour, shape and material.
Panton’s collaboration with Vitra began in the early 1960s, when the firm decided to develop what became his best-known design, the Panton Chair, which was introduced in 1967. This was also the first independently developed product by Vitra.
